Missing AirAsia flight QZ8501 likely ‘at the bottom of the sea,’ Indonesian authorities say

Indonesian authorities widened the search area for the missing AirAsia flight 8501 on Monday, as officials said no signals had been picked up from the plane’s emergency locator transmitters.
Indonesian authorities said on Monday that the missing AirAsia flight 8501 is likely at the “bottom of the sea” based on location coordinates from just before it vanished from air traffic control, Reuters reported. The sea in that area is up to 50 meters deep.
The search area has been divided into seven sectors, according to the Straits Times, stretching from Bangka island near Singapore to part of Borneo and the last known location of the aircraft in the Java Sea.
In addition to Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia have also deployed aircraft and naval vessels to aid in the search operation. China, South Korea and India have also indicated their willingness to dispatched ships and planes to assist in the search, the Wall Street Journal reported. According to Reuters, Indonesia may ask for help with underwater search efforts from the U.S., U.K. and France.
The missing Airbus A320 disappeared on Sunday after its pilot requested and was denied permission to fly higher to avoid a storm.
