Scam artist: Con man fails to scam parents by faking his own kidnapping and demanding 48K
  • 9 years ago
Mr. Wu is a selfish, up to no good, pilfering kind of son. He’s 28 years old and has remained unemployed and a financial burden to his family.

Mr. Wu borrowed some money from his parents to go to Indonesia to attend some business workshops, but what he was really learning was how to be a scam artist.

Upon his return to Taiwan, which he failed to notify his family about, he and two friends set up a scam that had the parents of all three losers in a panic.

They called Mr. Wu’s family and told his mother that he’d been kidnapped while in Indonesia and the kidnappers were demanding USD 48K for his safe return. Or else. The three took turns and called each other’s parents, making the same threats and demands for money.

While Mr. Wu’s mother frantically tried to come up with the money, his aunt wired USD 3,000 to predetermined bank account in hopes that it would by her precious nephew some more time.

However, in the end his family was unable to come up with the money and reported the kidnapping and ransom demand to police.

The police contacted the three scam artists and were eventually able to locate them in Kaohsiung, a city in southern Taiwan, where they had taken the USD 3,000 and decided to start partying and boozing it up. After all, they were expecting at least another USD 45,000 from each of their families if not more.

The police have arrested the three and are filing charges against them.

Now the next question is: Do you think their parents are willing to pay their bail?
