The heaviest rains in 80 years, which led to massive flood and mudslides,has lashed the Atacama region in northern Chile. The death toll currently stands at 17, with another 20 persons reported as missing. The Chilean government declared an alert and sent military and emergency crews to assist in rescue efforts. After initially declining offers of international aid, on Monday the Chilean government reversed its decision and agreed to accept assistance from other countries. teleSUR
