London welcomes in 2015 with parade

Thousands of people lined the streets of London on Thursday (January 1) to see more than 8,500 performers representing the London boroughs and countries from across the globe taking part in the 29th annual London's New Year's Day Parade, LNYDP 2015.

The parade, whose theme this year was "London on the Move", featured steam engines, horse drawn vehicles, bicycles, classic cars, as well as cheerleaders and marching bands from the US.

The procession started at The Ritz hotel at Piccadilly at 1200GMT and travelled past Piccadilly Circus, Lower Regent Street, Waterloo Place, Pall Mall, Cockspur Street, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and finishing at Parliament Street at 1530GMT.
