Adriatic ferry fire survivor: crew gave no information or help

Now that they are back on dry land, tired and emotional survivors of a car ferry that caught fire in the Adriatic Sea are talking about the frightening incident that broke out Sunday.

Timo Berndt said there was nowhere safe to go when the fire started and nobody on the ship's crew offered to help.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) GERMAN PASSENGER, TIMO BERNDT, SAYING:

"We were standing there, hundreds of people without informations, there was no information, no one of the staff who helped us, who told something to us and we couldn't go somewhere. And it was rainy and stormy.v"

Passengers say the lack of information was terrifying.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) GERMAN PASSENGER, TIMO BERNDT, SAYING:

"I think most of the people who have died have been these people who tried to jump into the sea in the first hour of the fire and without informations and without helpings."

Relatives who were on land say they felt in the dark throughout the scary incident too.
