Pink Floyd are back with "final" album

It has become the most pre-ordered album of all time on Amazon.

Pink Floyd’s new release, ‘The Endless River’ is the legendary band’s first studio album in 20 years.

Primarily made up of music the band put together during a jam session in 1993, it’s an atmospheric instrumental offering, with just one song, ‘Louder Than Words’.

Pink Floyd guitarist and singer David Gilmour says that although time has gone by getting back into the mood was easy: “I’d forgotten a lot of it but the sort of essence of what Rick and I and Nick did together all those years ago is still there, and it was very, very obvious. So it was a quick, easy decision to think we should work on it and put it out.”

Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason are the two remaining members of the band still working under the Pink Floyd name. Co-founder and prominent band member Roger Waters left the bank amid acrimonious disputes in the mid-1080s. This album is widely seen as a tribute to former band member Rick Wright, who died of cancer in 2008.

Pink Floyd are as famous for their psychedelic music and light shows as for their striking album covers. Creative director, Aubrey Powell, has been working with them since the very early days.

“This album, particularly, is very different from the previous albums. Even though it may be the last Pink Floyd album – never say never – this is more an ambient album, which is based on music that was recorded during a period of time of ‘The Division Bell’. So it required something slightly different. And also, it may well be their last album, so it required something a little more gentle, a little more abstract, and not something that was so sociologically conscious,” he says.

The album has opened to very mixed reviews. While one critic called it “a graceful (...) meditation on their own past”, another slammed it as “the dark side of rock-star entitlement”.
