Pro-Palestinian protesters clash with police in Paris

Waves of violence erupt in the French capital, as reverberations of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are felt in Paris.
Pro-Palestinian demonstrators threw stones and bottles.
Police lobbed tear gas and stun grenades back.
Some protesters climbed on top of a building and ripped an Israeli flag. At least one car was set on fire.
Shouting "Israel, murderer", they gathered in large numbers in northern Paris calling for an end to the violence in Gaza.
They came here despite a ban on protests, which is rare in France but President Hollande said it was needed to keep public order.
Tensions were inflamed here when Israel sent ground forces into the Gaza Strip after days of air and naval barrages failed to stop Palestinian rockets.
But also in Israel there was opposition to the offensive.
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered to march in Tel Aviv.
