DUI fail: Drunk driver tried to bribe cops with US$50,000 cash, expensive watches

If you're stupid enough to drink and drive, it's probably not a good idea to fall asleep at the wheel. And it's an even worse idea to try and bribe the arresting officers when you get caught.

But that's exactly what 35 year old Alcides Gonzabay from White Plains, New York, did recently when cops caught him slumped inside his still-running car next to several bottles of booze.

After foolishly telling cops that he had taken coke before drinking while driving on the highway...

Gonzabay then asked the cops to take him home in return for $40,000 cash because he didn't want his mother to see him in a cell.

Gonzabay blew a 0.29 on his breathalyzer and was taken to a local hospital, where he spent a few hours.

Before trying to bribe cops once again when back at the precinct, on this occasion upping the ante to $50,000 and some expensive watches from a safe at this home.

His final bribe was a mere $20,000, made to two narcotics officers in return for getting the arresting officers to let him go.

Needless to say, the bribes were turned down by the fine, upstanding members of the NYPD, which is fortunate, because Gonzabay needed the money a little later to pay the $10,000 bail.
