Some people think of their pets as people, but that probably won’t fly as an excuse if something illegal happens. Recently, a British student driver had her truck confiscated and will face charges after driving with only her pet bird.
The woman, over 50 years old, had a “provisional license” and could only drive when supervised by a qualified driver. West Yorkshire Police caught her speeding on a major highway.
Police posted a picture of her gray parrot on Twitter as a warning to others. The tweet began, “Say hello to my little friend” and continued with, “Unfortunately his owner has a provisional license, and since parrots are not authorized to supervise learner drivers, her vehicle has been seized by us on the M62.”
The woman will face multiple charges, including speeding. Police reminded the public that student drivers must have the proper supervision, insurance coverage, and understanding of driving laws for everyone’s safety.
Chief Inspector Mark Bownass added, “The rules of the road exist for a very good reason and it is important to remember that, if this lady had been in a crash or incident, she would not have been covered by insurance as she was not licensed for the journey.”
