Fans projected a message of support onto Grenoble hospital for his 45th birthday, where he is being treated for serious head injuries.

Ferrari club members also arrived in Grenoble, many with personal messages of support.

Schumacher secured 72 of his 91 F1 wins with the team and is considered an iconic part of their racing pedigree.

Over a 19-year career, he garnered seven world championships, eclipsing Argentinian Juan Manuel Fangio’s five titles to become the most successful F1 driver in history.

It was a keen racing brain allied to a raw natural driving talent that kept him at the top for so long. But his technical feedback also helped Ferrari to six successive Constructor’s Championships.

Schumacher was skiing off-piste in the French alpine resort of Meribel when he hit his head on rocks.

Doctors have confirmed signs of improvement but reiterated that he is still in a serious condition.
