Made after the famous performance "How to explain pictures to a dead hare", from german artist Joseph Beuys, the video "How to explain life to a dead country" is a mashup made with extracts from the classic mexican film from 1947, "Nosotros los pobres" (Us, poor).
Beuys' performance was about explaining the meaning of pictures (or art) to the corpse of a hare. Beuys considers the hare as a metaphor for the energy of Nature. He intends to create a link with that creative force, the life-death binomial.
Meanwhile the mexican film goes around the misfortune of a poor family living in Mexico City and their efforts to survive within an environment of social disadvantage and misery.
Nowadays, almost 60 years after the movie was filmed, the country is still in social crisis, surviving in between tragedy and expectation.
