Clashes erupt in West Bank

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION).

STORY: Clashes erupted across the West Bank on Sunday as Palestinians took to the streets to protest Israeli air strikes on Gaza.

In the city of Nablus several protesters were reportedly injured after Israeli soldiers fired tear gas to disperse a crowd of Palestinian stonethrowers, while some Palestinians were arrested by Israeli soldiers.

Red Crescent ambulances arrived to help some of those injured.

Israel uncorked its massive air campaign on Gaza on Wednesday with the declared goal of deterring Hamas from launching rockets that have plagued its southern communities for years.

The salvoes recently intensified, and are now displaying greater range.

Hamas, shunned by the West over its refusal to recognize Israel, says its cross-border attacks have come in response to Israeli strikes against Palestinian fighters in Gaza.
