Christopher Ciccone debuts his 'functional' footwear range.

Christopher Ciccone, the younger brother of pop star Madonna, took a rubber-soled step outside of his famous sibling's spotlight as he launched his debut shoe collection at the start of London Fashion Week.

Ciccone, 51, spun a modern twist on functional footwear, using rubber, leather and canvas to reinvent riding boots, wellington boots, boat shoes, brogues and sandals, using a mixture of bold block hues, geometric prints and strap details. The prices of the collection ranged from 60 to just under 500 dollars (USD).

SOUNDBITE Christopher Ciccone saying (English):

"It's, it's the art follows the form follows the function and it's you know, I'm an artist and so everything that I create comes from that world. That's where it begins and so for me it was looking through books of Georgia O'Keefe, of Mondrian, of Delacroix, of just as many artists as I could think of that I, whose works inspires me as an artist and I started working from there, you know."

The designer hasn't spoken to his pop star sibling about the collection but did say he had a pair of black cowboy boots picked out for the "Material Girl."
