Bimal Roy: The Silent Master – Bimal Roy started his career as a publicity photographer and was soon engaged as an assistant cameraman to Nitin Bose at Calcutta’s reputed New Theaters Studios. New Theatres' classics like ‘Mukti’ and ‘Devdas’ bear his distinguished mark as cinematographer. Bimal Roy's directorial debut Udayer Pathey of 1944, took a strong position against the class discrimination that existed during those times. Bimal Roy's ‘Do Bigha Zamin’ has the additional distinction of being one of the first Indian films to win awards at prestigious film festivals like Cannes and Karlovy vary.
