Take a tour of Hiroshima Peace Memorial in Hiroshima, Japan – part of the World’s Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

Adjacent to this stunning park is a somber reminder of this Japanese city's past.

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial, also known as the A-Bomb Dome, is the epicenter of the first atomic bomb to be used in war.

The building was constructed in 1915 and was originally called the Hiroshima Prefectural Commercial Exhibition.

Even though the bomb was dropped mere feet from this structure, it remained one of the few buildings in the area that was left standing.

After much debate over the fate of dome, it was eventually decided that it would be made into a memorial.

Here, and in the neighboring park, visitors can read about and see the effects of the bomb on the city and its inhabitants.
