World's Largest Cup of Tea Brewed in Sri Lanka

And finally... take a look at this... a thousand gallon cup of tea. It took hours to brew, and more than a hundred pounds of tea leaves to make.

It took more than five hours to brew... the world's largest ever cup of tea... more than a thousand gallons... was made in Sri Lanka on Saturday.

It took three hours to heat just over a thousand gallons of water in specially made boilers.

Then 140 pounds of tea, 350 pounds of sugar and almost two thousand pounds of 'viva' - a malt drink - were added, before the brew was transferred into the giant red teacup.

The record was previously held by the Mercy Health System of Kansas, which brewed an 800 gallon cup of tea last year.

Once the record is confirmed, it was time to sit down and enjoy a cup of the record-breaking brew.
