In order to produce electricity many of Mongolia's small towns still depend on the same expensive and environmentally damaging diesel generators they've been using for decades. But things may be about to change.
A number of towns have already made the switch to hydro power. And Mongolian nomads are using solar power increasingly often.

The German society for technical co-operation (GTZ) has been promoting solar energy in rural Mongolia, and these days, many nomads run their radios and TVs on solar electricity.
