An oil tanker and a bulk carrier collided in waters between Singapore and Malaysia on Tuesday. Authorities say about 2,500 tons of oil spilled into the waters.

There were no reports of injuries among the 50 crew members.

Sources say the tanker and the carrier collided in the Traffic Separation Scheme of the Singapore Strait.

Singapore port authorities said the spill was located four miles south of Singapore's southeastern tip.

A Malaysian coast guard said the collision caused a 33-feet gash in the left side of the tanker.

More than 85 personnel in 20 craft were on site to assist with clean up efforts.

Another 200 people were on standby to help clean up the Singaporean coastline, in the event that the oil reaches the country's shores.
