For the past 20 years, eastern and western Germany have been united. Who were the politicians who made unification possible in the first place and then made it work? We present the ”Architects of Unification.”In the former East Germany, Marianne Birthler took to the streets to protest against the communist regime, and after the fall of the Berlin Wall, she became spokesperson for the East German civil rights groups Alliance 90 . In 2000, she was appointed Federal Commissioner for the East German Secret Police (Stasi) Archives.
