Despite international agreements and import bans, the illegal international trade in wild animals continues apace. The lucrative business is threatening to push entire species into extinction. A large number of the animals actually die on the long transit routes, while in other cases mothers are killed specifically so as to get to the infants that are easier to sell. But what happens to illegally smuggled animals that are discovered and confiscated? For a number of years now, there's been a special animal station in Peru, located out in the Amazon jungle.

It was set up by a woman from Austria. She acted on her own initiative, without the support of the Peruvian government. But now all the animals discovered by the Peruvian authorities are brought to her.
