00:00This is Awa, who is the writer and performer in Horse of Janine, which has just won a Fringe
00:10first award. Can you tell me a little bit about the show and the interesting history
00:15behind the idea of the Horse of Janine? Well, the Horse of Janine is a statue of a
00:19horse that was built in Janine from the rubble, destroyed cars, bombed cars during an invasion
00:26that happened in Janine in 2002. So we built that statue and then 20 years later, after
00:33it stood for 20 years, an Israeli army bulldozer came and bulldozer it, took it away. So the
00:40story is about that statue and me growing up around that statue as a child, as a student,
00:46as a lover, as an artist who's willing, as a teenager who's willing to be an artist.
00:53So it's a story from Palestine, Janine in the West Bank, to tell the world about how
00:58it looks to live, how it looks like living in Palestine.
01:02Right. And how has it been performing that at the Fringe? How has it felt? It must have
01:06been quite an emotional experience.
01:08Well, I think it's a very privilege to be here, so you can share the story with a lot
01:13of international audiences and people get it on a really international scale. So it's
01:18amazing. And we're selling out and people are understanding the story. People are, uh,
01:25understand the reality of the Palestinians. And that's what we are aiming for as Palestinians
01:32is also to break the stereotype about us as Palestinians. You know what I mean? So that's
01:37why we have a story like The Horse of Janine that brings a humor, details of the daily
01:42life that any human around the world can connect with. So it's going well, amazing. People
01:48are, everything is going good, great responses. Most of the shows, we are sold out. We won
01:54the Fringe first. What else do we want? Yeah?
01:57That's great. Thanks so much. Thank you. Thank you so much.
