00:04According to travel experts at AAA, some 42.8 million Americans are expected to hit the road
00:09or take to the skies to get to wherever they're going for the long holiday weekend. And if you're
00:13going to be driving, you'd better buckle up, because some 38.4 million of those traveling
00:18are doing so by car. AAA says this is the most they have ever seen since beginning to track
00:23Memorial Day travel in the year 2000, with AAA Travel's senior VP telling Travel and Leisure,
00:29We're projecting an additional 1 million travelers this holiday weekend compared to 2019,
00:34which not only means we're exceeding pre-pandemic levels, but also signals a very busy summer
00:39travel season ahead. So when should you head out if you want to beat the holiday traffic?
00:43Well, most people are heading out on Thursday and Friday, May 23rd and 24th, so either set
00:48out before 11 a.m. or after 7 p.m. on those days. Though, heading out on Wednesday is even better
00:53if you can swing it. And when you're coming back on either Sunday or Monday, avoid doing so in the
00:58afternoon hours, as those will be the most congested times. And if you're flying, you're
01:02probably locked into that ticket, so the best thing you can do is simply cross your fingers.
