00:00 AI content on TikTok will now come with a warning label.
00:03 At least, that's the idea.
00:05 The social media company announced Thursday that it will be using Content Credentials technology
00:09 to apply a digital watermark to AI content created outside the TikTok app.
00:14 Content Credentials was developed by the Tech Trade Association Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity.
00:20 According to The Verge, the way it works is that participating programs capable of generating AI content,
00:25 such as Adobe Photoshop and Firefly, automatically output that content with invisible metadata tags.
00:31 TikTok will detect those tags and use them to apply a visible watermark.
00:35 The platform had already been labeling AI content created within the TikTok app itself.
00:40 This may not be a foolproof system, but it will hopefully provide some protection against misinformation
00:45 during the 2024 election season.
00:47 And it may be a popular move among users.
00:50 CNET reports that according to Meta, 82% of poll respondents favor labeling AI content
00:55 that depicts people saying things they did not say.
