00:00 Hi there, we're going to see something overnight that we've not seen for some time.
00:05 A widespread frost across the UK as cold air sweeps in from the north.
00:11 That cold air has now moved in widely courtesy of this northerly wind which will continue
00:16 to bring some showers to the north-east of Scotland, eastern England overnight.
00:20 Mostly these will be rain and hail at lower levels, some seasons over the hills of Scotland
00:24 but actually those showers will be easing through the nights, mostly confined to the
00:28 far coastal part of the UK.
00:31 And for the vast majority it's clearing skies, lighter winds, all the ingredients for a widespread
00:36 frost.
00:37 Towns and cities I think, somewhere between -1 and 2 Celsius by dawn on Saturday.
00:43 In rural parts, for example, south-west England down to -5 Celsius.
00:48 North-west England -8 Celsius possible, likewise for western Scotland.
00:53 These are where the lightest winds will be, that's why we'll see the lowest temperatures
00:56 in the west.
00:58 Not quite so low in the east but still feeling cold with that northerly wind still in place
01:02 as we start the weekend.
01:04 But despite the chill, actually plenty of beautiful blue skies.
01:08 It's a crisp autumn day for the vast majority and even in the east the showers will tend
01:13 to fade away just one or two by the afternoon.
01:16 Sunny spells breaking out widely and the wind easing as well, that has been particularly
01:19 strong during Friday.
01:22 With the sunshine and the light winds it will feel pleasant.
01:25 It might not feel as cold as it might if the winds were stronger.
01:30 Temperatures below average widely - 5, 6, 7 or even 8 Celsius in the south.
01:35 Three or four further north, perhaps lower than that over higher parts of northern England
01:39 and Scotland.
01:42 Then it's a Saturday evening, we keep the clear skies at first and once the sun sets,
01:46 of course it's setting very early at this time of year, temperatures will drop away
01:50 quickly.
01:51 We'll see widespread frost forming during Saturday evening and it will be a frosty night
01:56 certainly for the east of the UK and the north.
01:59 But actually further west temperatures will begin to rise through the night as thicker
02:03 cloud begins to arrive and some outbreaks of rain from the Atlantic.
02:08 So these are the kinds of temperatures we'll be seeing by dawn on Sunday, 8, 9 Celsius
02:13 parts of Pembrokeshire, south west England but below freezing once again in the north
02:18 and the east of the UK.
02:20 That's where the brightest skies will be first thing this weekend as the ridge of high pressure
02:24 holds on.
02:25 But we've got this low sneaking in from the west, it's bringing an occluding weather front
02:29 with it, it's bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain.
02:32 It's slow moving as it pushes against that cold air and the ridge of high pressure that
02:37 will be sitting in the east.
02:39 So it's a dry and bright start for central and northern Scotland.
02:42 Eastern England seeing plenty of bright weather first thing.
02:45 Some areas of medium and high level cloud moving in during the morning and into the
02:49 afternoon so not staying completely sunny although central parts of Scotland will keep
02:53 the best of the blue skies.
02:55 Elsewhere, thickening cloud, outbreaks of rain moving through Northern Ireland pushing
02:59 into south west Scotland, western England and Wales.
03:01 Some heavy bursts especially over parts of Wales and the south west.
03:05 A freshening breeze as well so a real contrast compared with how it will feel on Saturday
03:09 I suspect across these western parts of the UK.
03:12 But temperatures will be rising as that milder air and wetter air moves in, 11 Celsius towards
03:17 the south west.
03:18 Not feeling so pleasant where we've got the edge of the rainfall moving into cold air
03:24 across central areas so somewhere like Birmingham, 5, 6, 7 Celsius and some patchy rain moving
03:29 in by the end of the afternoon.
03:31 Staying bright in the far north and the east until dark.
03:36 Then into next week, it's mild and wet for a time before the potential for some colder
03:43 and in places some wintry weather.
03:46 But there'll be more on that in an update on our YouTube channel later on.
