Plot - Sally Brown is a children's book author and owner of a German shepherd named Buddy who represents for her the only link with her late husband and with her son who left for military service. One ill-fated day, her devoted four-legged friend flees in a thunderstorm and ends up in an animal shelter far from home. Meanwhile, Mark Green, struggling to put the pieces of his life back together after the death of his wife, goes with his daughter Emma to the local kennel and, enraptured by the immeasurable sweetness of the animal, chooses to adopt Buddy himself. When Sally, in desperation, finally manages to find her trusted companion, a heated dispute over the ownership of the dog ensues. While trying to figure out who Buddy will have to live with, the two end up starting a love story that will make him rediscover not only the joy of being part of a real family, but also the profound meaning of Christmas.
