The Women's Academic Choir of the Mykolaiv College of Culture and Arts in Ukraine rehearses in the sanctuary of the Basilica di San Crisogono, Rome, Italy, 3 July 2013. This is part of the rehearsal of "Psalm 22," (Greek numbering system) which is numbered Psalm 23 in the Hebrew system. The composer of the piece is Victoria Vita Poleváya. The director of the Women’s Academic Choir is the Honored Worker of Ukraine, Tetyana Anatoliyov Ostrovskaya. She is an Associate Professor of Music at the Mykolaiv College of Culture and Arts.

The audio is the critical component of this video, coupled with slides at the following times: 0:00-0:31, 0:40-0:45, 1:25-1:27, 2:19-2:22. In 2001, Ms. Poleva composed this complex and avant-garde modern spiritual. It is a composition for soprano and women’s choir that incorporates the psalm of King David of Judah/Israel that pictures the Lord as the Great Shepherd. He provides for his sheep. He protects his sheep and is a constant companion for them. The Lord Jesus Christ is the Great Shepherd, as referenced in the following New International Version Scripture passages:

The Gospel of John, chapter 10, verses 11 and 14-16:

“I am the Good Shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep…. I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to My Voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.”

The Book of Hebrews 13:20-21:

“Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that Great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

1 Peter 5:4:

“And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.”

Book of Revelation 7:17:

“For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd;
He will lead them to springs of living water.’
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Pax Aeterna says: "As each and every soul within the reach of the Mykoleiv College of Culture and Arts faces imminent barbaric actions from the invading forces, I pray, in the name of Jesus Christ, that the soul, heart, mind, and spirit of each person be convicted of the need for a personal relationship with You. Comfort and guide each one as only You can. May each one strive to walk with You. Grant each one wisdom at every moment. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit! Amen."
