Blue Origin plans to make its second crewed flight to space Wednesday, carrying the alter ego of one of the media’s most iconic space travelers. The 90-year-old actor best known for playing Star Trek’s captain of the Starship Enterprise James T. Kirk, Williams Shatner will join three others for the flight. The NS18 mission is set to lift off from Blue Origin’s west Texas launch at 8:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday, October 13 and live streaming coverage from Blue Origin is set to begin 90 minutes earlier. Shatner will be joined by a former NASA engineer, a French software executive and Blue Origin’s vice president of mission and flight operations. A few minutes into the flight, the New Shepard capsule will separate from the booter and continue into suborbital space. The crew will experience weightlessness and a view of Earth before re-entering the atmosphere for a parachute-assisted landing in the desert. The experience will last about 15 minutes.
