Teve magnitude umbral de 1,3155 e penumbral de 2,2941. Sua duração (como eclipse total) foi de 76 minutos. A Lua cruzou a metade sul da sombra da Terra, em nodo ascendente, dentro da constelação de Câncer. A região umbral cobriu toda a superfície lunar, deixando o disco avermelhado, com um leve brilho na extremidade sul, que estava próximo da borda externa da sombra. Os eclipses totais são popularmente conhecidos como Lua de Sangue ou Lua Vermelha.

The lunar eclipse of January 31, 2018 was a total lunar eclipse, the first of two total eclipses of the year. It was visible in Asia, Australia, the Pacific Ocean and western North America. It had a umbral magnitude of 1.3155 and a penumbral magnitude of 2.2941. Its duration (as a total eclipse) was 76 minutes. The Moon crossed the southern half of the Earth's shadow, in an ascending node, within the constellation of Cancer. The umbral region covered the entire lunar surface, leaving the disc reddish, with a slight glow at the south end, which was close to the outer edge of the shadow. Total eclipses are popularly known as the Blood Moon or the Red Moon.
