About Adıyaman

Adıyaman is located in the South East Anatolian Region of Turkey and its headquarters is also Adıyaman city. Adıyaman has a very ancient and magical historical background. There are a lot of marks of ancient civilizations from the oldest times.

For instance the history of the Palanlı cave which is located in Palanlı village lies down to the years of 40.000 B.C according to the archaeological findings.

Another example is from Samsat-Şehremuz Hill which is a hill in Adıyaman. Research shows that there are evidence from 3000-7000 B.C. This date refers to the Bronz Age. When the historical background of the city is searched, we see a lot of powerful and ancient civilisations. In the lands of Adıyaman, Hittitie, Assyria and Persian ruled one by one and after them Macedonians had started to rule with Alexander the Great. After that another important kingdom; Kingdom of Commagene ruled in these lands around Adıyaman.

Later on, Rome, Byzantine, Omayyad, Abbasid and Seljukian civilizations ruled in this city one by one. Adıyaman fell under domination of Ottoman Empire.
