Electricity-starved Guineans look to prized dam project as election nears

In Guinea, less than a third of the population has access to electricity, a lack which is becoming a source of social conflict. President Alpha Condé, who is running for a third term in office in the 18th of October election, has placed electricity at the forefront of previous campaigns. But while Guinea's biggest dam is now almost complete, people in the interior of the country are impatient: there is still no distribution network to illuminate their homes, yet the big mining companies have power day and night.
