A schoolgirl has become the youngest diver in the Philippines' to have reached 17.3 metres deep.

Alleah Kirsten Alojipan, aged nine, showed off her diving skills in Antique province on September 19, where she broke the unofficial record.

The young diver was assisted by six diving teachers including her father and cousin while she explored the corals underwater.

Her proud father said Alleah always enjoyed water sports since she was young so they enrolled her at a diving school.

He said: "We wanted her to enhance her talent so we saved to enroll her to this school. She started diving in shallow waters until she reached this depth."

Upon enrollment, Alleah was evaluated by dive instructors and immediately qualified for a five metre deep dive.

Her performance was above average and after she was evaluated again, she qualified for a deeper dive.

The 17.5 meters depth is said to be as high as a five-story building or two electric poles.
