The risk of pulmonary hypertension is high in South Africa due to the prevalence of HIV, tuberculosis and heart disease. Pulmonary hypertension, or high blood pressure in the lungs, is a deadly disease that affects around 75-million people worldwide. Dr Gerald Maarman, from the Centre for Cardio-Metabolic Research in Africa at Stellenbosch University, discusses this.
