Two Frenchmen were fined after trying to dodge the coronavirus ban by going to the beach disguised as buoys.

The pranksters were spotted wearing the silly buoy hats in Hyeres, France on May 8, to prevent the police from noticing them while taking a dip in the sea.

Pierre Kaci, one of the men who braved the ban, said they were regular visitors to the Almanarre beach but the COVID-19 restrictions has prevented them from enjoying the water this summer.

He said: "I take confinement seriously so we chose a spot where no one was around. We also just wanted to make people smile and bring a little cheerfulness during this stressful period."

Pierre added that they were fined 135 euros, but "it was all worth it."
