Stunning frozen methane bubbles were spotted in northern China's Lotus Lake on November 25.

The video, filmed in the city of Mohe in Heilongjiang Province, shows several white circular disks piling up on each other inside a frozen lake.

According to reports, the lowest temperature is around -30C in the city.

The methane gas released from the decaying plants on the lake bed creates bubbles which are then trapped within the ice and freeze into circular disk shapes.
