An 11-metre-high book tower built out of textbooks weighing 14 tonnes is displayed at Art Zone in Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology.

The video, filmed on January 20, shows the giant piles of books on the steel shelves forming a tower shape.

The idea was from an independent artist named Zhao Haitao who aimed to show the downfall of the paper books compared to technology such as phones and tablets.

2.5-metres of opened books were placed on top to make it look as if the tower is collapsing

The book tower was built in May in 2017 and it took a month to finish the project.

The books were placed on 16mm-thick steel plates and were stuck together by glue making the tower stable.
