Starting today, South Korean travelers will be able to use their home country's mobile payment services to buy goods overseas, starting with Japan.
An ordinance has taken effect that'll allow people to pay for things at stores in Japan that accept KakaoPay or Naver Pay by simply scanning a QR code.
This way they'll avoid paying overseas transaction fees to credit card companies.
The finance ministry is looking to expand the services to China and Southeast Asia,... to help strengthen the competitiveness of Korea's fintech industry.
