NIA to probe American rifle recovery case - NewsX

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe into recovery of US-manufactured M-16 colt rifles from Naxals in Bihar. Investigators are focusing on the source and route by which the foreign arms are reaching jungles of Bihar and Jharkhand. Sources say the probe has led to the arrest of a few locals. Suspicions of links to north-eastern groups have also emerged. The role of two senior members of the Maoists' Committee of these states is under scrutiny. Home Ministry sources say recovery of sophisticated small arms indicates that these arms are being given to top Naxal cadres for them to protect themselves and to assassination squads to carry out target killings. Police had recovered M-16 Colt rifle, Italian pistol and UK- manufactured bulletproof jacket from arms supplier Prafulla Malakar and Maoist zonal commander Anil Yadav.
