Solar Reef is an American progressive Rock band that formed in Boca Raton, FL. Drummer Darek Bloch and bassist Juan Portillo first came together in 2007, and the band went through a number of line-up changes as well as genres. It wasn't until 2010 that they established their core progressive sound and set out gigging the local rock scene. Formally known as Fazion, the trio began to gain small traction.
In 2015 the band decided to go on with what they started under a new name, Solar Reef, and eith two of the original members, Darek Bloch & Juan Portillo. They continued to develop their progressive sound but with an old school influence.
In 2017 the band added guitarist Mark Sipple to the line up. Mark added his unique sound and stage presence to the group with shredding licks and rock/metal influences to solidify a sound unlike anything else before. Juan tastefully and powerfully commands the bass guitar with funky and classic rock riffs and a finger-style unique to him. Darek belts out vocals while simultaneously not sacrificing the integrity, style and ambiance of the drums.
In 2018 Solar Reef added guitarist and long-time friend Bruno Medina to their lineup. The power trio amplified their core sound with his unique rhythmic and dynamic second guitar. Bruno rounds out Solar Reef’s sound and takes the band to their next level.
