Former President George W. Bush on Tuesday voiced his continued support for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Bush said in a statement to Politico: "Laura and I have known and respected Brett Kavanaugh for decades, and we stand by our comments the night Judge Kavanaugh was nominated."
Those comments included describing Kavanaugh as "a fine husband, father, and friend – and a man of the highest integrity."
"Kavanaugh worked for Bush as an associate counsel and then staff secretary in the White House," notes Politico.
Bush's latest statement comes as Kavanaugh prepares to testify on Monday concerning sexual assault allegations made against him by Christine Blasey Ford.
Kavanaugh has denied the accusations.

When asked to weigh in on the matter during a press briefing on Tuesday, President Trump told reporters he feels "so badly" for Kavanaugh.
"He's an incredible individual, great intellect, great judge, impeccable history in every way," Trump said. "This is not a man that deserves this."
However, Trump added, "we should go through a process because there shouldn't even be a little doubt."
