President Moon says no changes to national pension program without public consent

The government and Parliament are reviewing the national pension, as they're required by law to do so every five years.
While there are talks of major changes, President Moon Jae-in dismissed the idea of altering the state-run program without the public's agreement.

"Of course, one of the main goals of the government's welfare policy is to raise post-retirement incomes. It's hard to understand how the government came to be seen as doing the exact opposite - discussing a hike in monthly premiums or pushing back the starting age of pension payments."

The South Korean leader made those comments in a meeting with top aides... after recent reports and criticism of supposed plans to lengthen the pension's pay-in period to the age of 65 from the current 60.
