The government and Parliament are reviewing the national pension, as they're required by law to do so every five years. While there are talks of major changes, President Moon Jae-in dismissed the idea of altering the state-run program without the public's agreement.
"Of course, one of the main goals of the government's welfare policy is to raise post-retirement incomes. It's hard to understand how the government came to be seen as doing the exact opposite - discussing a hike in monthly premiums or pushing back the starting age of pension payments."
The South Korean leader made those comments in a meeting with top aides... after recent reports and criticism of supposed plans to lengthen the pension's pay-in period to the age of 65 from the current 60.
