A mother orangutan and her 14-month-old infant were released back into the wild in Ketapang, Borneo, after a period of rehabilitation at International Animal Rescue’s orangutan centre in Sungai Awan, Ketapang.Photos and videos of the release, that took place on July 10, were shared by International Animal Rescue, showing the 10-year-old orangutan Maili taking full advantage of her newfound freedom by climbing up a tree as soon as she was released. Maili was rescued by IAR from captivity in 2015, and her original release was postponed after the team discovered she was pregnant with her now 14-month old son, Osin. Maili fell pregnant with Osin while she was undergoing rehabilitation at the orangutan centre.Maili and Osin will continue to be monitored in the wild for another two years.
