The World Today With Tariq Ali - Spain: Changing of the Guard

This week we return to Spain to hear from the people that now make up Spain’s ‘New Left’.

In Madrid, the old guard has been defeated. Mariano Rajoy, head of the right-wing Popular Party, was ousted in June for corruption. The government was brought down with help from politicians from Catalonia, where, last October, Rajoy ordered a violent crackdown on those voting in the unofficial independence referendum.

Much has happened in Catalonia since the referendum, including splits within Spain’s New Left parties. For context on the issue, we have spoken to two prominent figures from the Catalan Left: Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau, and ex-Podemos Catalunya leader Albano-Dante Fachin.
