Man has heart transplant from bike enthusiast - immediately takes to the saddle

A father who was given a new lease of life after a heart transplant from a keen cyclist has told how he immediately took to the saddle following his operation. Kevin Mashford, was born with a congenital heart disease and was told that he would have a seriously shortened life span after medics realised the extent of his condition. The businessman did not quite realise how serious his illness was until medics told him that he had kidney failure, lung failure and heart failure and had just weeks left to live. The 38-year-old was put straight on to the emergency transplant list and underwent a successful heart transplant in May last year. He was told that his donor was a keen cyclist who had died in a collision with a car while out riding.
