SNL Parodies Black Panther on Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live is on a roll lately, following up its successful Star Wars sketch from last week with a very good “deleted scene” from Black Panther.

The scene takes place in the spiritual plane that T’Challa visits in the film, when he becomes the King of Wakanda. He’s greeted by his family members, all of whom have passed away but appear to give him guidance — all except for his Uncle M’Butu. While the rest of the family tries to explain their history and explore their beliefs in the hopes that it will help T’Challa down the road, Uncle M’Butu is left wondering how he wound up dead in the first place.

It’s nice to see that Saturday Night Live’s inevitable take on Black Panther managed to capture the essence of the movie while maintaining the show’s own personality. People probably won’t look back on the sketch in five years and call it one of Saturday Night Live’s best, but it does the trick.
