Hi this is Dana Ranahan from Body Works Sports Physiotherapy and today I’m here to talk about elbow pain. Have you had trouble with tennis elbow or lateral elbow pain? Well this is a really difficult problem to treat sometimes and what often happens when you get tight on the outside of the arm, where we have, this is where our wrist extensor muscles go, so when we lift out wrist, the muscles come up and attach at the elbow. When it gets tight, sometimes it pulls our arm away from our body. So a technique that we can use is actually trying to bring the arm back to neutral which will lengthen this off. So you can try this as a home exercise assuming it helps to relieve pain. So if this is the case, you can come up to a wall, basically hook your elbow close into the wall, so the inside of your elbow and all along here is against the wall and then I’m going to use my other hand to pull my arm over just to keep it snugged in against the wall. And then I’m going to do just like a little gripping exercise or I can do a little exercise moving my hand, and it should be pain free. If you can do this without pain, this can be an exercise that can help restore normal movement at the elbow. If you have lateral elbow pain, give this a try. If it doesn’t work you may need some assessment to see what’s going on for you or if you have more questions you can check out our website at www.body-works.ca
