New Digital Pill Will Tell Doctors If Patients Are Skipping Meds

Your doctor might know if you took this digital pill.

The FDA just approved America's first-ever pill that's embedded with a tiny ingestible sensor the size of a grain of a sand. Once the pill comes in contact with stomach acid, a signal is sent to a patch worn by the patient, which then transmits the data to a smartphone app. The patient then decides if their doctor to receive the results.

The patch also records activity levels, sleeping patterns, and heart rate, and will be prescribed to treat schizophrenia patients, who are prone to skip doses. The pill could help save costs on extra treatment or hospitalization.
