Democrats introduce bill that would ban 'conversion therapy'

On Tuesday, Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Ted Lieu, introduced the Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act of 2017 to Congress with hopes of banning ‘conversion therapy.’ Rep. Ted Lieu In 1973, the DSM removed homosexuality as a disorder, but before then conversion therapy was used to treat individuals with same-sex desires by using electric shock therapy and inducing nausea. Rep. Ted Lieu As of now, seven states in the U.S. along with the District of Columbia have passed legislation to ban conversion therapy, and even Governor Chris Christie has become the first Republican governor to sign a bill banning the practice.
