Veil-wearing Muslim DJ goes viral, enrages internet losers

CENTRAL JAVA, INDONESIA — Apparently not all female DJs need to flash tonnes of skin to get ahead. One young Indonesian woman named Ariska has created a stir online, DJing under the name DJ Chika in Islamic face veil and hijab.
The indonesian Internet is oddly fixated on the 20-year-old’s performances, even though to date there’s only been a couple of these veiled DJ sets.
Chika’s style first turned heads back in January after her gig at a new year’s even party was recorded and wound up on YouTube.
Needless to say, not all the reaction was positive. Although veiled, the hardest of the hardcore Muslim fringe condemned her for playing dance music, which is considered a sin.
Yet, it seems not to have fazed young Ariska, who says she switches up her outfit to fit the theme of each event.
Ariska says she’s always loved music and got into dance music through a friend. From there she caught the DJ bug and took a course to learn how to mix.
She clearly knows something about music as she also plays guitar and violin. Her family is cool with the idea but has some conditions: no booze and no playing in nightclubs.
And when she’s not taking gigs as night she’s studying pharmacy.
