In a remarkable story that appears to be straight out of a movie, a woman allegedly held captive by her own husband at their home in Franklin County, Missouri was freed after writing "contact 911" on a UPS package.
According to a statement issued by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, James Jordan "...locked a 3-year old child in a room for several hours while allegedly assaulting the female in the residence."
KMOV reports, "The woman was prevented from leaving or using the phone. Court records say the husband beat her, put a gun to her head and threatened to kill her. He allegedly dragged her back into the house by her hair when she tried to run away."
When the UPS driver, who was making a scheduled pick-up, arrived at the couple's home, the husband reportedly had the wife open the door.
CNN notes that the woman managed to write "contact 911" on the shipment.
After the driver noticed the message, he notified law enforcement and a SWAT team rescued the female shortly thereafter.
According to authorities, Jordan faces multiple charges including domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.
In a statement, UPS said in part, "We are grateful this UPS driver with more than a decade of service followed protocol when he saw a customer in distress and contacted authorities after he saw her message to contact 9-1-1."
