OCEANSIDE, CALIFORNIA — A suspected drunken driver killed a pedestrian in a vicious hit-and-run Monday, driving for a mile with the victim’s body stuck in the front seat, Oceanside police said.

The collision occurred at about 6:20 a.m. on the 4000 block of Mission Avenue when witnesses reported seeing a man who was walking on the sidewalk being hit by a car, police said.

Authorities said Esteysi Sanchez Izazaga, 29, who goes by Stacy Sanchez, drove her vehicle onto the sidewalk and hit the man.

Police believe that Izazaga may have been driving while intoxicated.

Because of the speed of the car, the victim flew through the windshield, landing face down, coming to a rest on the front passenger seat, according to an NBC 7 report.

The man’s leg detached from his body and flew through the back window, landing on the trunk of Izazaga’s car, police said.

Izazaga continued driving for about a mile, eventually parking her vehicle in a neighborhood cul-de-sac and walking away, police said.

Witnesses called police, who found Izazaga a few blocks away, according to NBC 7.

She was arrested and charged with felony DUI, felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. Izazaga was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

Authorities are working on contacting the victim’s family before making his name public.
